Ted was reading a book while he listened to the rain hammering against the windows and on the roof. Peter would come home soon, he thought, and usually he was in a good mood when he came home on Thursdays; but today it was raining, and when it rained on Thursdays, he’d just run into his room and slam the door behind him.
Shortly afterwards Peter arrived and did exactly as Ted had expected.
‘There must be something to this,’ he thought and had a look at the boy’s timetable. The last lesson on Thursdays was PE; could there be a connection?
What has the weather to do with PE? Of course, he thought, usually it would take place in the schoolyard, but when it rained, the hall would be used. So was it just that Peter preferred the outdoors, or was there more to it?

Ted decided to get to the bottom of this, and the following Thursday he went to the coffee shop opposite the school and watched the yard. Peter’s class was doing PE, and for the last ten minutes the teacher announced free time. Peter grabbed a basketball and started practising, throwing it into the hoop from every possible angle and distance. ‘A promising talent,’ Ted thought and went home.

In his room Ted unzipped his fleece and proclaimed, ‘This is a job for Autisman!’

A week later it rained again, but Peter came back from school in a particularly good mood.
‘What are you so happy about?’ his mother asked him.
‘Somebody has anonymously donated an indoor basketball hoop to the school,’ the boy replied with a big smile.

‘Mission accomplished,’ Ted thought to himself and went back to his book.
